How We Verify Appraisers
Every appraiser in our directory is cross-referenced with a recognized national or international professional registry. We do not accept self-reported credentials.
Our verification sources
We currently source appraiser data from the following recognized professional registries:
- ✓American Society of Appraisers (ASA)
Multi-disciplinary; requires testing, peer review, and ongoing USPAP education.
- ✓International Society of Appraisers (ISA)
Personal property specialists; international scope; requires USPAP compliance.
- ✓Appraisers Association of America (AAA)
Fine art and personal property; peer-reviewed credentialing process.
- ✓Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America (ABAA)
Rare books and manuscripts specialists; vetting by existing members.
- ✓International Automobile Appraisers Association (IAAA)
Classic and collector vehicle specialists.
We are actively adding additional specialty bodies to our source list (including ANA for numismatics, IFAS for firearms, APS for philatelic, and others). “And other specialty bodies” on listing pages forward-compatibly covers these additions.
Display rules
- →We only display appraisers with a verified contact email address. Appraisers without a verifiable email do not appear in search results.
- →USPAP-compliant and IRS-qualified flags are sourced directly from the registry data or derived from membership in organizations that require USPAP compliance for their designated members.
- →Credentials displayed (e.g., ASA AM, ISA CAPP, AAA Certified) are as reported by the issuing organization. We recommend verifying credentials directly with the issuing body for high-stakes engagements.
- →Our data is refreshed regularly from registry sources. If you find outdated information, please contact us to flag it for review.
What we do not verify
Our directory verifies membership in recognized professional registries. We do not:
- • Independently verify claims made in appraiser bios or service descriptions
- • Investigate individual appraisers for complaints or disciplinary actions
- • Verify that a specific appraiser is currently active or accepting new clients
- • Certify the quality of any individual appraisal report
We recommend verifying an appraiser's credentials directly with the issuing organization and asking for references before engaging them for high-stakes appraisals.
